  • New Steinberg/Dorico API

    Hi Przemek

Dorico 4 has just been released.

At p53 of the Version History it says "Remote Control Support - Dorico 4 introduces a new remote control API that allows richer control from external applications such as the Elgato Stream Deck or Metasystems Metagrid apps for iOS and Android. This API allows software to connect to Dorico using WebSockets, then to send commands, update properties, read the state of the application, and so on.If you are a software developer who would be interested in finding out more about Dorico’s remote control API, please contact us.

I'm guessing this new API will be similar to the one that's been foreshadowed and will probably appear in Cubase 12 and hopefully elsewhere.

Did Steinberg give Metasystem a preview of the API? Is it part of Metagrid Pro already?

    Thanks

We've had access to Dorico 4 and have a working communication with the API - but the issue that stopped us from implementing in in MG Pro is that many commands in this API are multi- component ones - basically you trigger one command and it needs complementation based on the available options for this command. Otherwise it will not work. It is not clear what these complementary options are and to be honest we are not Dorico experts to predict all the possible permutations. We needed to focus on MG Pro release first. We want to go back to Dorico when MG Pro is released. But as said, we have working communication with Dorico through API - and want to make it happen but it will require additional effort on our side and help from Dorico teams/power users.
